Tonga Prime Minister Sovaleni has been confirmed as infected with novel Coronavirus

Tonga’s Prime Minister Shosi Sovaleni has been confirmed to have contracted the Novel Coronavirus infection and is in quarantine at home, tongan media reported On Wednesday.

“The novel coronavirus test results were positive and the symptoms are mild,” sovaleni said in a statement issued by the Tongan Prime Minister’s office on Tuesday. “Sovaleni and his family members will be quarantined at home for 13 days in accordance with health regulations.” The prime minister’s office said Sovaleni had previously been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and a booster vaccine. He will continue to exercise his powers as prime minister during quarantine.

In her statement, Sovalene called on Tongans to continue their vaccinations and remain vigilant for the Novel Coronavirus pandemic and to comply with quarantine measures.

In Tonga, an island nation in the South Pacific with a population of more than 100,000, about 89 percent of the target population is fully vaccinated.
