WHO: Omicron Has Spread to 77 Countries and Is Likely Present Worldwide

(” Never seen virus spread at this speed “, Omicron has spread to 77 countries and is likely to be present in most of the world. South African health officials have announced that the exact symptom of Omicron is “sweating at night”.) Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), warned on December 14 that a new variant of the Novel Coronavirus strain “Omicron” may already exist in most of the world. So far, infection with the omicron variant virus has been confirmed in 77 countries. Tedros emphasized in particular — “‘ Omicron is spreading at an unprecedented rate. In reality, almost every country in the world could have the omicron mutant virus. Tedros expressed concern that the omicron variant was being underestimated in some countries and regions.

The omicron mutant strain, which was confirmed in South Africa on Feb. 14, is spreading faster than ever before, threatening to replace Delta. Despite international restrictions in South Africa and neighboring countries, the virus has not been able to stop its spread around the world. Even Japan, which initially declared itself under lockdown, has reported a total of 128 cases, while South Korea has reported two imported cases of omicron. South Africa’s President Cyril Ramaphoza even tested positive. Conventional nucleic acid tests do not distinguish between delta and Omicron, South Africa’s health ministry said at a news conference. “The exact symptom of Omicron is night sweating.”

With the rapid spread of Omicron, some countries have accelerated the third dose of COVID-19 vaccine, highlighting the imbalance in global vaccine distribution, which who said needs to be addressed as soon as possible. Pfizer of the United States and VionTech of Germany say small clinical studies have shown that a third dose of vaccine can produce antibodies against the omicron mutation to some extent. Moreover, the antibody levels obtained were essentially the same as those obtained during the two previous vaccinations against other mutated viruses, such as Delta. No matter from the perspective of clinical technology or intervention psychology, the benefits of the third injection are obviously greater than the disadvantages from the perspective of preventing severe illness and mortality.
