HR-positive, HER2-negative advanced or metastatic breast cancer in combination with an aromatase inhibitor or fulvestrant

Verzenio (abemaciclib) is a prescription medication used to treat certain types of breast cancer in post-menopausal women by inhibiting proteins that enable cancer cells to grow and spread. It is taken orally, usually in combination with other treatments, ranging from 150mg to 200mg twice daily. Clinical studies have found that it is effective in extending progression-free survival and improving overall survival when used with hormone therapy. Verzenio has common side effects such as gastrointestinal issues, fatigue, and decreased appetite. Potentially severe side effects such as blood clots and liver damage should be closely monitored, most importantly when used with other interacting medications. Despite these risks, Verzenio provides new therapeutic opportunities for women with advanced-stage breast cancer.
