Description
Xenical Orlistat is a medication used for the treatment of obesity and overweight conditions. It is manufactured by Roche and contains the active ingredient Orlistat. Each package contains 42 pills, each containing 120mg of Orlistat.
HOW TO USE:
Xenical Orlistat should be taken orally with each meal containing fat, or up to 1 hour after the meal. The recommended dose is one 120mg pill per meal, up to three times daily. The medication should be taken as directed by the physician and should not be taken more than three times daily.
Storage Conditions:
Xenical Orlistat should be stored at room temperature between 20-25°C (68-77°F) and protected from light. The medication should be kept out of reach of children and pets.
Mechanism of action:
Orlistat works by inhibiting the enzyme called lipase, which is responsible for digestion and absorption of dietary fat. By blocking the action of this enzyme, Orlistat reduces the absorption of dietary fat in the body, which in turn helps in weight loss.
Precautions:
Patients taking Xenical Orlistat should inform their doctor about any other medications they are taking, as the medication may interact with other drugs and increase the risk of adverse effects. The medication should also not be taken in the absence of a diet/exercise program.
Contraindications:
Xenical Orlistat should not be used in pregnant or breastfeeding women, as it may harm the fetus or newborn. It should also not be used in patients with a known hypersensitivity to Orlistat or any of the other components of the medication.
Drug Interactions:
Orlistat may interact with some medications, such as Warfarin, Levothyroxine, and Cyclosporine. Patients should inform their doctor about any other medications they are taking before starting treatment with Xenical Orlistat.
Overdose:
In case of an overdose, patients should seek medical attention immediately. Symptoms of an overdose may include stomach pain, nausea, and diarrhea.
Side effects:
Common side effects of Xenical Orlistat include stomach discomfort, oily stools, bowel urgency, flatulence, and headache. In rare cases, allergic reactions may occur, and patients should seek medical attention immediately if they experience symptoms such as difficulty breathing, hives, or swelling of the face and throat. Long-term use of the medication may also lead to deficiency of vitamins A, D, E, and K.
