Janumet is a combination medication for type 2 diabetes containing sitagliptin and metformin; the former is a DPP-4 inhibitor and the latter improves insulin sensitivity. It is prescribed for patients whose blood sugar levels are not controlled with metformin alone. Clinical studies have shown that Janumet not only reduces blood sugar levels but also reduces the risk of hypoglycemia and improves waist circumference, BMI, and blood lipid profiles. Its side effects are usually mild such as gastrointestinal issues, but serious ones like pancreatitis, lactic acidosis, and allergic reactions are rare, and patients with severe kidney or liver disease, metabolic acidosis, or heart failure, pregnant women, and those planning to conceive should not take it.
